Not one, but two gymnasts from Minnesota will represent the United States in the Tokyo women’s gymnastics team at the July Olympics.

At the US Olympic Gymnastics Trials on Sunday, Suni Lee of St. Paul was second with an aggregate score of 115.832 just behind defending US champion Simone Biles, who finished first overall with 118.098 points. As the first two, they automatically got their place in the team. The double reflects the result of the US gymnastics championships earlier this month.

Lee also made history as the first American Hmong to join the US Olympic Women’s Gymnastics team.

A selection committee chose Jordan Chiles and Grace McCallum from Isanti, Minnesota to complete the four-person team. McCallum finished fourth in the overall practice standings.

Jade Carey and MyKayla Skinner will also compete for the United States in Tokyo as individual competitors.

On Saturday night, former Minnesota Gopher Shane Wiskus secured a spot on the US Olympic men’s gymnastics team.
