Franklin/Muskego Wins WIAA Division 1 Gymnastics Team Title


WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wisconsin. – The Franklin/Muskego cooperative won the Division 1 team title at the 2022 Gymnastics State Championships at Wisconsin Lincoln High School on Saturday.

The Sabers won their first championship in this version of co-op, compiling a score of 147.682. In a former cooperative arrangement, the Franklin/Muskego/Oak Creek/Whitnall cooperative won eight championships. Verona/Edgewood finished second with a score of 144.399. Arrowhead finished third with a team total of 142.500.

Annika Rufenacht of Verona/Edgewood was the Division 1 all-around champion with a score of 38.116 in four events. Homestead’s Maggie Pokorny finished second with a score of 37.900 after finishing third a year ago. Madison West’s Alexa Harris was the bronze medalist with a score of 37.483.

Rufenacht was also the vault champion with a score of 9.633. Kamryn McNally of Holmen finished second in the event with a score of 9.567.

Pokorny took the uneven parallel bars crown with a score of 9.617 after placing fifth in 2021. Hartford’s Clara Kenney placed second with a 9.600 after an 11and-place last year and seventh in 2020.

Kenney won gold on the balance beam with a score of 9.550 after winning bronze in the event two seasons ago. Harris finished second in the event with a score of 9.500.

Samara Ownby of Madison East/La Follette won the floor exercise crown with her routine which scored 9.433. Rufenacht finished second with a score of 9.400.
