The Greater Brandywine YMCA gymnastics team, the GYMCATS, traveled to compete at the YMCA National Gymnastics Championships in Toledo, Ohio June 22-26.

“We are thrilled that our athletes have the opportunity to showcase their talent and hard work at the highest level of YMCA gymnastics. They had a fantastic performance at the Pennsylvania State Gymnastics Meet and we look forward to another great meet,” said Megan Hartman, Director of Gymnastics.

More than 4,000 gymnasts, coaches and spectators were present at the national meet. The Oscar Lasko YMCA gymnastics team, the GYMCATS, had 35 athletes competing in the all-around (vault, beam, floor and bars). GYMCATS is a competitive gymnastics team where members can develop their skills and abilities while competing. Recreational and preschool programs are also available.

“The national championship meet has been held since 1938, and it’s such a great tradition among YMCA gymnastics programs,” Hartman said. “We have seven seniors graduating this year and this will be the last meeting of their gymnastics careers with the GYMCATS. We view this contest as a celebration of all they have accomplished with the program.
