Gymnastics center will send 15 national qualifiers to US competitions


The North Stars Gymnastics Academy has announced that it has 15 National Qualifiers in its USAG Women’s Development Program.

There are seven Level 9 and eight Level 10 gymnasts who qualified in the Region 7 competition held at the Miller Center in Lewisburg, Pa., April 21-24.

Region 7 Gymnastics is the governing body for USAG gymnastics in six states: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. The USAG Women’s Gymnastics Program Committee is made up of eight regions across the country.

To qualify, athletes had to finish in the top seven of the all-around in their age group at the Level 9 Regional Championship. gymnasts will now compete individually in their respective age categories and as part of the Region 7 National Team at the 2022 United States Gymnastics Women’s Development Program Tier 9 Eastern Championships at the Center of Golisano training in Rochester, New York, May 5-8 with Regions 5-8 competing. The Westerns National Meet is restricted to qualified Tier 9s from Regions 1-4.

North Stars Tier 9 Eastern Qualifiers include:

  • Giorgia Carroll, 16, of Warren, Class of 2024, Region 7, 1st place all-around champion
  • Alexa Ciliotta, 14, of Montville, class of 2025, region 7, tied for 1st place with the all-around champion
  • Lia DiNapoli, 13, of Butler, Class of 2026, Region 7 alternate
  • Stella Fischer, 12, of Bridgewater, Class of 2027, Region 7, 6th place all-around
  • Alessia Rosa, 12, from East Hanover, Class of 2028, Region 7, 3rd place all-around
  • Jessica Schmitz, 16, of Wayne, Class of 2024, Region 7, 4th place all-around
  • Sh’Nai Thompson, 14, of Dunellen, Class of 2025, Region 7, 7th place all-around

At Tier 10, the top seven All-Around finalists from each Tier 10 Regional 7 Championship age group will compete in a separate competition, which encompasses all eight official USAG regions in the United States.

These athletes must also score a minimum of 35 AA out of 40 AA, but most scored much higher, as Region 7 is notoriously among the most competitive. Level 10 gymnasts will compete in the 2022 USA Gymnastics Women’s Development

The Tier 10 Women’s Development National Qualifiers that will compete in Mesa, Arizona include:

  • Alexa Chuy, 16, of Scotch Plains, Class of 2023, Region 7, 5th place all-around
  • Amani Herring, 18, Denville, Class of 2022, Penn State University Gymnastics Commitment, Region 7, 2nd place all-around
  • Olivia Kelly, 15, Mahwah, Class of 2024, Region 7, 2nd place all-around
  • Karina Lankamer, 17, Flemington, Class of 2023, will fill in as Region 4 National Team Representative
  • Olivia Orlando, 18, of Randolph, Class of 2022, Southern Utah University Gymnastics Commitment, Wild Card Round, All Four Events
  • Alex Tornberg, 18, of Chatham, Class of 2022, Wild Card round, jumping
  • Madison Vitolo, 17, of Basking Ridge, Class of 2023, University of Illinois Gymnastics Commitment, Region 7, 3rd place all-around
  • Alana Walker, 15, of West Orange, Class of 2024, Member of the Jamaica National Gymnastics Team, Region 7, 1st Place All-Around Champion
