Claudia Fragapane will return to the England gymnastics squad after an eight-year absence for next month’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Fragapane swept the table with four golds in Glasgow in 2014 but missed the Gold Coast Games four years ago with an Achilles tendon injury.
Other injuries have hampered her progress at the top level, but the 24-year-old said she was relishing the opportunity to return to a five-person women’s arts team.
Fragapane said: “It’s absolutely amazing to be back competing for the England team eight years later – it’s even more special this time.
“Coming to Birmingham 2022 I just really want to have fun. I’m so excited, I can’t wait to get there now and compete with everyone and make more memories.
Two-time Olympic medalist Max Whitlock and team bronze medalists Jennifer and Jessica Gadirova opted to skip the event to focus on the upcoming world championships in Liverpool.
However, the women’s team includes Alice Kinsella, who was part of the team that earned an unexpected podium spot in Tokyo.
The men’s team is led by Birmingham-born former world champion Joe Fraser and fellow Tokyo Olympians Giarnni Regini-Moran and James Hall.
