Kenston’s gymnastics team opened their playoffs Feb. 20 at Hudson High School with a sectional team title and top two all-around.
The Bombers narrowly beat the host Explorers, 146.600 to 145.225. Avon (139.500) finished third and Mentor fourth (135.100).
The top four teams and top 12 individuals from each event qualified for the February 26 district meet at Mentor.
Kenston’s Mary Cowan won the all-around with a score of 37.425, and teammate Presley Gabram was second at 37.400.
Cowan was the beam section champion with a 9.700 score and Claire Roch was third with a 9.575 score.
The Bombers went 1-2-3 on floor practice. Gabram was the sectional champion of the event with a 9.525. Cowan (9.475) was second and Roch (9.275) third.
Gabram also won the vault section with a 9.325. Cowan finished second with a 9.250. Gabram was the region’s top finisher at the bar — third with a 9.100.
Other area finalists in the all-around top 10 were Kenston’s Roch (fifth) and Lake Catholic’s Olivai Suponcic (eighth). Mentor’s top all-around finisher was Addison Lyles, who finished 12th.

Vault – Suponcic (fourth), Roch (tied sixth), Kate Kaprosy, NDCL (ninth), Lyles (tied 12th)
