LOCK HAVEN – The Lock Haven YMCA gymnastics team recently wrapped up their regular season at a meet with Waynesboro High School. The meet was a new format for the team allowing all team members to compete and high school gymnasts to achieve qualifying scores for the PA Classic, the high school equivalent of a state meet at Moon High School.
All of the team’s high school gymnasts qualified for the competition: from Sugar Valley Charter School, Mia Sycz and Emma Fox qualified for the Silver All Around; Central Mountain gymnasts Samantha Streator qualified in floor silver and Emily Everett in floor bronze.
The PA Classic will be held at Moon High School on Friday and Saturday, February 18 and 19.
The team paid tribute to their eldest, Emma Fox, the previous Saturday at a triple meet with the Garver Memorial and the Huntingdon Community Center.
Emma is the daughter of Brad and Jamie Fox. She attends Sugar Valley Charter School. Emma has been a gymnast since the age of 5, taking a break after her first season to return last fall.
Emma qualified for the All-Around States in the Silver Division her first year and followed her senior year with the same qualification. In addition to gymnastics, she participated in volleyball and softball, is a member of the university committee and yearbook staff. Emma will be attending Lock Haven University in the fall and is currently undecided.
Teams A and B finished their season in the Allegheny Mountain Gymnastics League with a 1-5, 0-6 record.
On Saturday, February 12, at Central Mountain Middle School, the team hosted the AMGL Championships. The theme was The Greatest Show. Gymnasts from all four league teams competed on all four equipment during the championships.
