Youngstown Gymnastics Center gymnasts shine at state championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Ten gymnasts from Youngstown Gymnastics Center finished in the top three at the 2022 Ohio State Gymnastics Championships two weeks ago.

Six-year-old Remi Fonner came first on bars and beam and second on vault. She was crowned the Level 2 All-Around Champion.

“I felt happy and excited,” Fonner said.

At level 9, Gabby Schubert also won a few medals.

“I was second on beam and I think I was tied for third on floor and I was fourth or fifth in all-around, but I can’t remember,” laughed Schubert.

After his state performance, Schubert secured a spot to compete in the regional competition. Level 7 gymnast Sophia Payne and Level 9 Sarah Zupanek will join Schubert at regionals later this month.

In the state meet, Level 2 Marcella Crowles finished third on bars, beam and all-around. Ainsley Campbell and Grace Nevel both won bronze medals on beam. Lena Mararri came third in bars.

Level 5 gymnasts Rose Pascolini and Kenley Schiraldi finished third in the state vault. Payne took silver on vault on level 7, while Zupanek finished 3rd on balance beam on level 9.
